Your ilonggo family isn't in Manila — and your shipment shouldn't be treated as if it were
If you're from Iloilo, or your partner is, or your parents are, you already know what happens when you search for "shipping to the Philippines": everyone talks to you about Manila. But your lola lives in Jaro, your aunt in Molo, your cousin moved up to Antique last year, and your brother crossed over to Bacolod for work. Manila is a long way away from you — just as it is from them.
Iloilo isn't "just another province". It's the gateway to Panay and the heart of the Western Visayas (Region VI), home to one of the largest ilonggo communities abroad anywhere. And shipping there has its own logic: the island of Panay, the closeness to Bacolod, and a delivery time that isn't Manila's.
This guide is for you — the person sending to Iloilo and the surrounding area from Spain. No made-up prices, no promises of delivery times that don't hold up.
TL;DR. To Iloilo, documents take 2–7 business days and an air balikbayan box 7–15 days — adding 2–3 days over the Manila baseline because it's Western Visayas. Sea cargo, 45–75 days. The price is never fixed: we close it for you on WhatsApp within 2 hours. Iloilo is the natural hub for distributing across all of Panay.
Why Iloilo is handled differently from Manila, Cebu, or Davao
Every destination in the Philippines has its own rhythm. Manila is the base point because it's where almost everything lands and where the main customs offices are. From there, each region adds its own delivery time.
Iloilo is in Panay, a large island in the Western Visayas. It has its own international airport — Iloilo International Airport, in Cabatuan — and works as a regional hub: what comes in through Iloilo is the natural route to reach the rest of the island and the neighbouring areas.
This changes two things compared to Manila:
- The delivery time. Western Visayas adds +2–3 days over the Manila baseline. It's not a delay, it's the reality of moving a box from the entry point to a Visayan island and, from there, to its final destination.
- The coverage. Iloilo isn't just Iloilo City. It's the base from which deliveries reach all of Panay and Negros Occidental once you cross over.
If you're coming from reading our general guide on how long a shipment from Spain to the Philippines takes, here's the version specific to your region.
Iloilo as the gateway to Panay: where it really reaches
When you send "to Iloilo", the real destination is often beyond the city. Iloilo is the entry point to the island of Panay, and from there delivery continues to the neighbouring provinces:
- Antique — the west coast of Panay
- Capiz — to the north, with Roxas City
- Aklan — the Kalibo area and the gateway towards Boracay
- Guimaras — the small island across from Iloilo, famous for its mangoes
And closely linked, though already on another island: Bacolod (Negros Occidental), so connected to Iloilo that many ilonggo families move between the two.
What this means for your delivery time
The +2–3 days for Western Visayas already accounts for reaching Iloilo as a regional point. If the final recipient is in a more inland part of Panay (heading up to Antique, or in a municipality far from Capiz or Aklan), it's worth assuming the last delivery leg may need a bit more leeway. It's not a remote island like Batanes, but it's not delivering right in the city centre either: it's the reality of distributing across an island with mountains in the middle.
When you ask for a quote, tell us the exact municipality, not just "Iloilo". That way we give you an honest delivery time instead of a generic one.
Real delivery times to Iloilo and Panay (from Barcelona)
These are the delivery times we work with, already including the Western Visayas modifier. They're the only ones we give; if someone promises you less, be wary.
| Shipping type | Base time (Manila) | Time to Iloilo/Panay |
| Documents (Spain ↔ Philippines) | 2–7 business days | 2–7 business days + regional delivery |
| Small air package | 7–14 days | +2–3 days |
| Air balikbayan box | 7–15 days | +2–3 days |
| Sea balikbayan box | 45–75 days | +2–3 days |
| DHL / FedEx Express | 3–7 days | +2–3 days |
Documents. Apostilles, powers of attorney, migration papers, diplomas. It's the fastest: 2–7 business days Spain ↔ Philippines, and then the regional leg to the municipality.
Air balikbayan box. The usual format for family: clothes, processed food, gifts, electronics. For Acacia, "balikbayan" is always air — we won't send something by sea that you were expecting in two weeks. 7–15 days base, +2–3 because it's Visayas.
Sea. Only if you're going with a lot of volume and no rush: 45–75 days, plus the regional leg. For Panay, plan with plenty of room.
If you want to fully understand the difference between air and sea before deciding, we explain it in detail in air balikbayan box from Europe to the Philippines.
The balikbayan exemption: your best tool for shipping to Iloilo
This applies the same in Iloilo as anywhere in the Philippines, but it's so useful that it's worth being clear about before you pack.
The balikbayan regime lets your box enter tax-free if it meets these conditions:
- Value of up to PHP 150,000 (around €2,500) per shipment.
- A maximum of 3 boxes a year per recipient.
- Contents for personal use (not for resale).
- A properly done packing list: the list of contents that goes with the box.
The packing list is what most speeds up or slows down clearance. If the list matches what's inside, everything flows. If there are discrepancies, the box can end up waiting for inspection — and that, added to the Panay leg, lengthens the delivery time unnecessarily.
Before you seal the box, review what can and can't go in this guide to permitted contents. It saves you surprises.
How we ship to Iloilo from Barcelona
The process is the same as for any destination, with the regional delivery time already counted in:
1. You write to us on WhatsApp or drop by the office with an idea of what you're sending and the destination municipality in Panay (or Bacolod).
2. We close the price for you within 2 hours. It's never a fixed board rate: it depends on weight, volume, and shipping type.
3. We receive or pick up your box or documents in Barcelona. The daily cut-off is at 18:00.
4. We prepare and document — packing list, proforma invoice, everything in order for the exemption.
5. It flies and enters through the Iloilo route as the hub of Panay.
6. Regional delivery to the recipient, with the +2–3 days for Visayas.
Our differentiator for the truly urgent: when there's a date that won't wait — a legal document, a family emergency — we can take the shipment by hand to the airport. If you're really in a hurry, say so from the very first message.
Frequently asked questions about shipping to Iloilo
How long does a shipment to Iloilo from Spain take?
Documents, 2–7 business days plus the regional delivery. An air balikbayan box, 7–15 days base +2–3 days because it's Western Visayas. Sea cargo, 45–75 days plus that same modifier. For a fine-tuned delivery time, tell us the exact municipality in Panay.
Do you only deliver in Iloilo City, or also in the rest of Panay?
Iloilo works as the gateway to the entire island of Panay. From there you reach Antique, Capiz, Aklan, and Guimaras. The more inland or remote the municipality, the more worth it is to allow leeway for the last delivery leg.
And Bacolod? Do you cover that too?
Yes. Bacolod (Negros Occidental) is a neighbouring area closely linked to Iloilo, and we handle it within the same Western Visayas logic, with its +2–3 days over Manila. Let us know if the destination is Bacolod or a municipality in Negros so we can adjust the delivery time.
How much does it cost to ship to Iloilo?
We don't give a fixed price, and for an honest reason: it depends on the weight, the volume, and the shipping type. What we do do is close the price for you on WhatsApp within 2 hours. No surprises afterwards.
How do I make use of the balikbayan exemption when shipping to Iloilo?
The same as to any destination: up to PHP 150,000 (~€2,500) in value, a maximum of 3 boxes a year per recipient, personal use, and a properly done packing list. If you meet that, the box enters tax-free.
